About the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards
The National Payroll Giving Awards Event is held annually in October to celebrate the efforts of employers, charities and professional partnerships in promoting Payroll Giving in the work place. Any employer who has achieved a Bronze, Silver or Gold Payroll Giving Award Certificate is eligible to apply for entry to the National Payroll Giving Awards.
The Awards and Event are funded by HM Government, organised in conjunction with the Institute of Fundraising and administered by the Payroll Giving Centre.
The Payroll Giving Quality Mark Certificates are issued annually to all employers with a Payroll Giving scheme in place and achieve specified levels of participation.

Who is Involved in the Awards
HM Government , committed to increasing regular and tax-effective giving in support of UK charities. In particular the Office of the Third Sector and Cabinet Office, HM Revenue and Customs and HM Treasury.
The Institute of Fundraising is the professional membership body for UK fundraisers, working to promote the highest standards in fundraising practice and management.
The Payroll Giving Centre is an independent source of support for employers, donors and charities, offering a dedicated hotline, advisory service and information on all matters relating to Payroll Giving Schemes.
General Awards Criteria
The National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards have been established in conjunction with the Institute of Fundraising and the Payroll Giving Centre and are designed to showcase the best Payroll Giving schemes in the UK.
Any employer who has achieved a Bronze, Silver or Gold Quality Mark Award in 2010 is eligible to submit an entry for the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards 2010.
All applications are marked against specific criteria by a panel of impartial judges. Every category is unique and therefore so is the individual criteria although the qualifying period is the same for all categories – 1st April 2009 to 31st March 2010. BEST LAUNCH OF A NEW SCHEME
For the employer that has introduced a Payroll Giving scheme into the workplace and shows the best integration of launch activities, promotion to staff and target achievement.

BEST RE-LAUNCH OF AN EXISTING SCHEME
For the employer that has reviewed a scheme and increased their overall participation rate by adopting an active and innovative approach. The successful employer will have evaluated their methods of recruiting Payroll Givers and have planned for regular, ongoing promotional activities.

The category winner will be able to show how the campaign was introduced and the important factors impacting on the outcome. The winner will also be able to illustrate that the campaign included originality, innovation and creativity.

SUPPLIMENTARY CATEGORIES
BEST INNOVATIVE PROMOTIONAL PARTNERSHIP
For a Payroll Giving promotion which was successful as a result of a partnership between the employer and any other organisation, including a Payroll Giving Agency, Professional Fundraising Organisation, Charity or Charity Consortium or other external organisation. The category winner will need to illustrate the expectations and outcomes of the partnership, highlighting innovation and creativity.

THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PAYROLL GIVING PROMOTION
This award will be allocated by the judges if appropriate and the selection will be made from the winners of all of the above categories.
NB. At the discretion of the judges Highly Commended Awards may also be allocated for each of the above categories.
Eligibility
- Employers in receipt of 2010 Bronze, Silver or Gold Quality Mark Awards are eligible to enter providing their promotion or campaign was carried out between 1st April 2009 and the 31st March 2010.
- In the event that the campaign or promotion was carried out over a number of sites the date that the final promotion took place must be within the time frame stated above.
- Employers can apply for one main award category, in addition to the Best Innovative Promotional Partnership supplementary category.
- There is no charge to submit your application(s).
Authenticity Guarantee
Employers making applications must confirm that the content of their application(s) to the best of their knowledge, is legal, decent, honest and truthful. The Institute of Fundraising and the judging panel reserve the right to ask for additional information from the employer and to make enquiries with the relevant Payroll Giving Agency, Professional Fundraising Organisation, Charity or Charity Consortia where appropriate.
Application Process
- Employers will be sent a confirmation of receipt of their application(s) by email.
- All employers not selected for the shortlist are able to request that feedback be given in respect of their application(s) after the event by emailing the administrators, details are given under ‘Contacts’.
- All employers short-listed for the Awards will be notified by the Payroll Giving Centre following the judging day in August 2010.
- The Payroll Giving Centre reserves the right to move applications to a more suitable category if deemed beneficial and the employer will be notified of this decision.
- Strict enforcement of the limitations on the number of words requested will apply and applications may be rejected if word numbers are exceeded.

Ian Harris Chairman of Judging Panel
He is a Director and Co-Founder of Z/Yen Group Limited, specialising in strategic planning and systematic performance improvements.
Lindsay Boswell
As Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising since 2000, Lindsay has driven the organisation forward to become the leading voice and professional body for fundraising in the UK.
Sarah Benioff
Joined the Cabinet Office, Office of the Third Sector (OTS) as Deputy Director for Participation, in July 2007. With a Masters in Public Policy and Public Administration Sarah has been involved with many voluntary and community sector organisations.
Keith Moore
Head of HMRC Charities since September 2006, with a degree in Civil Engineering he spent 10 years in industry before joining the Inland Revenue in 1993.
David Gold
Now CEO of Prospectus Limited after pursuing a City career at UBS Asset Management Division, following which David joined Business in the Community (BITC) as head of the London Division.
Philip Whiteley
He is Editor of Payroll World, an author and journalist specialising in management, particularly leadership, motivation and strategic human resources.
Karen Thomson
Karen has 12 years experience in payroll and pensions, latterly at Carlisle City Council. She joined the Policy & Research team of Institute of Payroll Professionals in March 2003 and is responsible for assisting members via writing News On Line and regular PayrollProfessional articles, and looking after all IPP consultation with the Department of Work and Pensions and the Scottish Parliament.
Jane Banks
Jane is currently with the British Heart Foundation developing Payroll Giving and helping them win the first ever Best Third Sector Employer Campaign at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards. Previously Jane headed up the Corporate Services Team with CAF developing campaigns within the FTSE350, developing payroll giving services in Bulgaria, India, Russia and Australia, whilst successfully lobbying for tax advantages for people donating in Australia.
